The Lottery

"The Lottery" is a not-so short story written by Shirley Jackson is 1948. The story starts off in a village on the 27th June. The village always had a lottery held for a ritual for a sacrifice to fertilize crops in the village. The head family chooses first for the lottery and Bill Hutchinson's family is the chosen one and the sacrifice is Bill Hutchinson's wife, Tessie Hutchinson. Therefore, she was stoned to death and a hint of her dying was shown in the story. I find the story exciting because the prize wasn't told until the end of the story but it turn out that the prize isn't a prize for the winner but it is for the village.
